This year, "Shoot For Those In Need", in addition to helping out the Peace Arch Food Bank and The Lookout Emergency Aid Society, has decided to help out a young lady that is in need of great assistance.  Her name is Molly Imrie. She is a gifted Grade 9 basketball player from Grand Forks who was recently diagnosed with cancer and is currently receiving treatment in the Lower Mainland.  For additional information on Molly, please visit www.drivebasketball.com and click on "SHOOT FOR THOSE IN NEED CHARITY GAME". Here is an e-mail I received from someone close to the family:

She had her first chemo session in mid-October. Molly responded well, although there was some concern over the weight loss and she has little to lose as is. Her hair was shaved off at the end of October. Due to the difficulty she has standing, Molly now gets around in a wheel chair. She is scheduled for 3 sessions of chemo in November. Her 1st Nov session happened last week with 2 more to go. The family is now rotating between Children's Hospital and Ronald Macdonald House for November. Apparently, the family is in the Trevor Linden Room at RM House. Molly is happy about that and the place feels like a home.

As you can imagine, it will be a tough month physically & emotionally. She is buoyed by the emails & visits from family & friends. She even received a call from Steve Nash, the man himself.  Steve Nash takes the time to chat. What it says about class acts and athletes like Linden & Nash. There's a lesson there, for sure!

Her community has been hard at work with individual donations and fundraising activities, such as bottle drives, student leaf raking, pizza sales and wristlet sales. In addition, the Grand Forks Curling Club, which the family are avid curlers, is holding a big benefit. There will also be a Cops for Kids Basketball game versus the West Kootenay Regional players, along with members of the East Kootenay team, later this month.

For those wishing to write/send letters directly to Molly, whether they are read this week or 6 months from now, the effect will be the same; a boost to her spirit.
